So You Want to Sell Plants? Here’s What I Wish I Knew First
🌱
I didn't start growing plants because I thought I was going to become a plant seller.
I started because I loved plants.
Then I started propagating.
And propagating.
And propagating.
Before I knew it, I had more plants than I knew what to do with.
That's when I started thinking:
“Wait… what if I sold some of these?”
It seemed simple enough.
Grow plants → sell plants → make money.
Right?
Not exactly.
The Part Nobody Tells You About Selling Plants
Once you actually start selling, you realize that growing a beautiful plant is only one small piece of the puzzle.
Suddenly you're asking:
How much should I charge?
Am I actually making money?
What does this plant really cost me?
Should I sell cuttings or rooted plants?
Where should I sell them?
How do I find customers?
How do I package and ship plants?
What happens if something goes wrong?
What plants should I even be growing?
And then you realize something that can be a little uncomfortable:
Making a sale doesn't necessarily mean you're making a profit.
You might sell a plant for $25 and feel like you just made $25.
But what about the soil?
The pot?
The mother plant?
The supplies?
The packaging?
The fees?
The time you spent caring for it?
The plants that didn't survive?
Suddenly that $25 doesn't look quite the same.
Maybe You Don't Want a Huge Plant Business
And that's okay.
Maybe you just want your plant hobby to pay for itself.
Maybe you want a little extra income.
Maybe you want to turn your love of propagation into a side hustle.
Or maybe you're secretly dreaming about building a real plant business.
Whatever your goal is, you need to understand what you're actually building before you start spending money and growing hundreds of plants.
Because one of the biggest mistakes you can make is growing first and figuring out the business later.
Your Plants Are Only Half the Business
You need to know how to grow plants.
But you also need to understand:
Pricing.
Costs.
Customers.
Inventory.
Marketing.
Selling.
Shipping.
Systems.
That's the difference between having plants people might buy and actually knowing how to build a business around them.
And that's exactly why I decided to create something I wish I had had when I was figuring this out.
I'm Creating a Course About Selling Plants
I'm putting together a course for the person who keeps thinking:
“I love plants… but how do I actually turn this into income?”
I want to help you understand the business side of selling plants so you aren't just guessing your way through it.
Because you shouldn't have to learn everything by making every expensive mistake yourself.
And if you've been thinking about selling plants, learn before you scale.
Don't fill your house with inventory first.
Don't spend hundreds of dollars on plants hoping they'll sell.
Don't assume that because someone else is making money selling plants, you automatically will too.
Start with a plan.
