The Emotional Seasons of Growth: What Plants Can Teach Us About Rest
I’m going to hold your hands when I say this: Not every season is a growing season babes, and your plants know this also.
In winter, some plants slow down. Growth becomes less obvious. Watering changes.
Some leaves drop…..( side eyes )
The plant may look like it's doing nothing. But underneath the surface, something is still happening…..In this world of seems like endless and spiritless working at a job that doesn’t care about you…. and despite that , you learn: Humans have seasons too.
We aren't meant to grow constantly.
There are seasons when you're building.
Seasons when you're exploring.
Seasons when you're thriving.
And seasons when you're simply trying to get through the week. Surviving at that point.
We've been taught to treat rest like a problem.
If we're not moving forward, we assume we're falling behind.
But plants don't work that way, and neither do we.
Dormancy isn't failure.
Rest isn't the opposite of growth.
Sometimes rest is part of growth.
Your plant doesn't become less valuable because it isn't producing a new leaf every week.
is the same as…..
You don't become less valuable because you're not constantly achieving something.
This is one of the most beautiful things plants can teach us.
Letting go doesn't mean you failed.
Plants lose leaves.
They shed old growth.
They redirect energy.
They adapt.
And eventually, they grow again.
Sometimes your next season requires you to release something from the previous one.
A habit.
A relationship.
An expectation.
A version of yourself.
That doesn't mean everything was wasted. It means you're making room.
What season are you in?
Maybe you're in a growth season.
Maybe you're rebuilding.
Maybe you're resting.
Maybe you're letting go.
Maybe you're simply surviving.
I have great news for you ….there is no wrong answer.
I made my Just in Khas Emotional Seasons of Growth Guide to use plant cycles as a gentle framework for reflecting on your own seasons. We can grow and learn together.
It explores:
🌱 Growth
🌿 Expansion
🍂 Release
❄️ Rest
🌷 Renewal
Because sometimes the most important thing you can do isn't grow faster.
It's give yourself permission to grow differently.
At some point , I felt like I was failing because I was not productive/growing.
But let me teach you:
What Plants Can Teach You About Rest, Burnout & Starting Over:
Step 1: Identify your current season.
Are you in:
🌱 Growth
☀️ Expansion
🍂 Release
❄️ Rest
🌷 Renewal
Step 2: Ask what your current season requires.
Not:
"What should I be accomplishing?"
Ask:
"What do I need?"
Step 3: Compare yourself to a plant , not someone else's timeline.
Your Monstera isn't jealous of someone else's Anthurium.
Your growth doesn't have to look like someone else's.
Step 4: Make a "minimum care" list.
During difficult seasons, decide:
What is the minimum I need to do to keep myself and my plants okay?
Maybe that's:
Watering
Eating
Sleeping
Showering
Listening and vibing to a good playlist
Checking your plants once a week
That's enough.
Step 5: Let something go.
Choose one thing you're carrying that doesn't need to come with you into your next season.
Then your Emotional Seasons of Growth Guide becomes the deeper reflection tool.
